New York in the 1990s: A metropolis in constant change, with neighborhoods being gentrified in rapid succession, is home to young mother Inez (Teyana Taylor) and her son Terry. However, as she is struggling with prison sentences and homelessness, her son spends his early life in foster families. In a desperate attempt of uniting the small family, Inez kidnaps him and takes him to live with her and her boyfriend Lucky (Will Catlett).
Years later Terry has grown into a calm and intelligent young man, with the opportunity to make something out of himself, but the true story of how their family came to be poses the risk of blowing everything up.
