Open Dialog: How Do We Teach And Remember History?
State lawmakers have made headlines in the past few years as they attempt to ban schools in the United States from teaching about slavery and the holocaust. At the same time, a large percentage of Americans do not know that the Civil War was about slavery and Confederate flags are to be seen everywhere. What can the US learn from Germany’s attempts to ensure that the events of WW2 do not happen again? How have the countries approached history education differently? And is Germany at risk of a similar problem with the rise of hateful groups?
