Monday Nite at the Movies

Never Rarely Sometimes Always is a teenage drama which, set against the backdrop of often restrictive abortion rights in the United States, tells the story of a teenage girl who has to go to great lengths to reclaim her body and her identity.
Seventeen-year-old Autumn (Sidney Flanigan) lives in rural Pennsylvania when she unintentionally gets pregnant. Lacking the support of her family, she decides to have an abortion. Since the conservative abortion legislation in her home state requires parental consent, Autumn and her best friend Skylar (Talia Ryder) decide to go on a trip to New York City, where Autumn hopes to find the help she needs.
Director Eliza Hittman explores the “vulnerability of female adolescence” in Autumn’s struggle for self-determination. Accompanied by Skylar, she escapes her stifling environment and embarks on an emancipating, but also painful journey.
