Open Dialog: Will America Ever Have A Woman President?

German-American Topics in English with Jason Brown, Freiburg

In 2018, the American people elected more women to the House of Representatives than ever before. Still, the Women’s Power Index reveals that the U.S. ranks only 106th (among UN countries) when it comes to equal representation of women in politics. In Germany, which ranks 26th, several women have held high offices, e.g. Angela Merkel, Ursula von der Leyen or Saskia Esken. So why has there never been a female president in the United States? Why does Hillary Clinton remain the only woman nominated as a major party candidate to the present day? Why do women candidates in the 2020 primaries have a hard time to stay in the race? Let’s discuss!
