Open Dialog: How Political Is Cuisine?

A restaurant with a political statement is a recent trend in the German culinary world. The agenda “gastronomy against racism” enables restaurants to ban AfD supporters from entry on the grounds that the employees need a safe workspace and that their customers deserve a friendly environment. Across the ocean, gastronomy sets a different political agenda. In the U.S. restaurants seek to popularize “political cuisine” or “conflict kitchen”, i.e. the food from Iran, North Korea,Venezuela, Afghanistan, Palestine – America’s political opponents. Let’s talk about gastronomy’s role in shaping public political opinion one way or another!
