Monday Nite at the Movies

“Prepare to get bashed” in this modern, funny, coming-of-age movie. The directional debut of Olivia Wilde, it follows the decision of two straight-A students and best friends – Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) and Molly (Beanie Feldstein) – to enjoy their graduation night and pack up four years of hard studies into one crazy night. This decision was triggered by Molly’s realization that the cool students she was looking down on got into the same Ivy League schools as her, all the while balancing fun and hard work. This fresh movie portrays the intricacies of high-school life, along with the diverse world it represents with different personalities, sexual orientation, skin tones and more. A valuable lesson to be learned here is that prejudices and assumptions about other people can often be misleading. In this movie, we get to see a supportive friendship of two strong, smart and feminist females who are ready to ignore their booksmart ways for once and delve into a night of fun, rule-breaking and revelations.
