Boy Erased

Monday Nite at the Movies

USA | 2018 | 115 min | Dir.: Joel Edgerton | OmU

Jason Eamons (Lucas Hedges) was born and raised in a small town full of deeply religious people. When he is unwillingly outed as gay, his dad (Russell Crowe) and mom (Nicole Kidman) give him a choice: go to gay conversion therapy or be disowned. Jason, a nineteen-year-old college student, is pressured to enroll in a church-sanctioned program that promises to „cure“ him of his homosexuality, lest he be cut off from his family, his friends, and his church. Throughout the months of abuse masquerading as therapy, Jason struggles to find acceptance from his community, from his family, and from himself.
The highly anticipated film is based on Boy Erased: A Memoir by Garrard Conley.
