Strasbourg Write a Story 2019

Creative Writing Workshop mit Hal D’Arpini, Detroit & Strasbourg

To promote the English-language short story competition “Strasbourg Write A Story” the competition’s organizing committee is sponsoring a creative writing workshop here at the library.
The session’s topic, “Repetition In Your Writing,” is drawn from Ursula Le Guin’s book on creative writing, Steering The Craft. Along the way, participants will be encouraged to ask questions about the subject matter and will be engaged in writing exercises designed to train them in the use of repetition as a tool in their arsenal and generally to give them the opportunity to flex their writing muscles. By the
end, they hopefully will feel enthusiastic enough to enter the competition, but this is not obligatory.
The workshop will be led by Hal D’Arpini, a founding member of the SXB Write A Story competition and its webmaster. Hal is from the Detroit area of the U.S. and lived in Strasbourg for seven years before moving to Munich in 2017. While in Strasbourg, Hal worked as an English teacher and lead a creative writing group. He has been leading writing workshops on behalf of the competition for the past several years, here in Freiburg and elsewhere.
