Library Card

To borrow books, DVDs or magazines, you need a library card. You can have one made anytime during our hours of operation - just stop by! Your library card is then valid for one year. We also offer a 90-day card at a reduced price.  

Prices

13€ -- Regular

10€ -- Discounted (school and university students, Azubis)

7€ -- Temporary (valid for 90 days)

5€ -- Digital (access to ebooksusa only - valid for 1 year)

For members of the Carl-Schurz-Haus, a library card is completely free of charge.

Borrowing and Due Dates

• max. 15 books: 3 weeks, or 9 weeks with two extensions
• max. 8 magazines: 2 weeks, or 6 weeks with two extensions
• max. 2 audio books: 3 weeks, or 9 weeks with two extensions
• max. 2 board games: 2 weeks, or 6 weeks with two extensions
• max. 3 DVDs: 1 week, or 3 weeks with two extensions
  • TV Series: 2 weeks, or 6 weeks with two extensions
  • DVDs with "NEW" stickers cannot be renewed!

• max. 1 DVD player: 1 week, or 3 weeks with two extensions

Members of the Carl-Schurz-Haus may borrow up to 4 DVDs.

Extensions

Using the online catalog, items can be renewed for an additional loan period (see above), as long as no other library user has reserved that item. In order to make use of the maximum loan period, renew your items on their due dates and not before. A DVD that is renewed the day after it has been checked out will only be checked out for 8 days total instead of 14.

Please note that DVDs with a "NEW" sticker cannot be renewed.

Late Fees

Items returned late will accrue late fees. Books, audiobooks, and magazines turned in late cost 0.50€/week. Late board games cost 2€/week. Late DVDs cost 2€/day. Late DVD players cost 5€/day. Fines are levied on the first overdue day.
