General Course Information

Small Groups Guarantee Greater Learning!
Our classes typically require 4 participants to take place, with the maximum set at 8, unless otherwise noted. It is possible for a course to begin without the required minimum, however the course duration would then be adjusted.
All of our teachers are highly qualified native speakers with multiple years of teaching experience. You can find more information about our teaching staff here.

After the completion of a course, a certificate of attendance can be issued upon request.  Please contact the respective Course Coordinator if you have specific requirements for this.

Participation in our language courses requires an application form with the course number clearly indicated. The Carl-Schurz-Haus asks that you register before the start of the desired course. A smooth start to our language courses can only be guaranteed if we receive ample notification of interest in a course at least one week in advance.  If there are still places available, it is certainly possible to sign-up even after a course has begun!

Payment of the course fee can be made by direct debit only. The debit slip serves as receipt of payment. Fees will be debited after the course has started to ensure that the selected course takes place and that the student is enrolled at the appropriate level. Refunds are not given when a participant cancels his application or if the classes cannot be attended.

In the event of the absence of the instructor, the Carl-Schurz-Haus will attempt to find a substitute or schedule a make-up date. As a general rule, the minimum number of participants for our language courses is four people and the maximum number is eight. Exceptions are sometimes made for specific courses. If the minimum number of students for a language course is not met, the Carl-Schurz-Haus is not obligated to hold or continue the course; however, it is also possible to hold the course with a shorter duration. The Course Coordinator reserves the right to combine courses with a small number of participants and a similar level of mastery of the language. If a course is cancelled because the minimum number of students was not reached, participants will be notified automatically. There may be slight changes in course dates and times due to advanced planning.  All participants will be informed if and as changes occur.

The Carl-Schurz-Haus is not responsible for any lost or misplaced belongings in the language classes or the institute. The Carl-Schurz-Haus is not held liable for casualties occurring during the courses or for any accidents occurring in connection with the courses. If an offering is cancelled or must be cancelled in the case of force majeure, the Carl-Schurz-Haus is not obligated to provide other services.

For courses which operate in cooperation with adult educational centers, the student must abide by the terms and conditions of both the Carl-Schurz-Haus and of the education center
